Time

The Greatest Gift you can ever give is your time, Because when you are giving your time to anyone, you are giving them a portion of your life...........That you will never get back..

-----

Now, isn't that a nice thought? (Of course,it doesn't mean that you stop giving gifts totally, and tell people that you're giving them the greatest gift of time by talking to them.Haha!)

But,yes, you are giving a part of your life to people when you give them some time-time which won't return again. So, can you utilize it without grumbling, getting annoyed, angry, heckled,  irked....and,just feeling good about it? At the end of the day, just try and recount how many hours of your day you gifted to people. It'll probably help you to avoid sprawling in front of the TV munching potato chips for the rest of the evening, because you won't want to give the TV all your time, will you?.:) Good luck!

Inferior?Me? You must be kidding

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. -- Eleanor Roosevelt

Good heavens- such a simple line, and so true, isn't it? Just think- each time someone makes you feel lower than a snake's belly, who is to blame? We naturally tend to think it's the other person and most of the time, at least at that moment or for a long time thereafter, we hate that person with all our h(e)a(r)t-red. But, when I read a phrase like this and think back on such moments, I realize it's truth..it's us, our selves, our ego that takes a beating and makes us feel inferior.

Wouldn't life be much simpler and we, much happier, if just decided to 'move on'?

The Train of Thought

Now, this one is a thought provoker..I don't think there's really a right or a wrong answer, but, the one given at the end is the most logical, when you think twice about the situation.

A group of children were playing near two railway tracks, one still in use while the other disused. Only one child played on the disused track, the rest on the operational track.

The train is coming, and you are just beside the track interchange. You can make the train change its course to the disused track and save most of the kids. However, that would also mean the lone child playing by the disused track would be sacrificed. Or would you rather let the train go its way?

Let's take a pause to think what kind of decision we could make........ .

Most people might choose to divert the course of the train, and sacrifice only one child. You might think the same way, I guess. Exactly, everyone thinks the same way initially because to save most of the children at the expense of only one child was rational decision most people would make, morally and emotionally. But, have you ever thought that the child choosing to play on the disused track had in fact made the right decision to play at a safe place?

Nevertheless, he had to be sacrificed because of his ignorant friends who chose to play where the danger was. This kind of dilemma happens around us everyday. In the office, community, in politics and especially in a democratic society, the minority is often sacrificed for the interest of the majority, no matter how foolish or ignorant the majority are , and how farsighted and knowledgeable the minority are. The child who chose not to play with the rest on the operational track was sidelined. And in the case he was sacrificed, no one would shed a tear for him.

The great critic Leo Velski Julian who told the story said he would not try to change the course of the train because he believed that the kids playing on the operational track should have known very well that track was still in use, and that they should have run away if they heard the train's sirens. If the train was diverted, that lone child would definitely die because he never thought the train could come over to that track! Moreover, that track was not in use probably because it was not safe. If the train was diverted to the track, we could put the lives of all passengers on board at stake! And in your attempt to save a few kids by sacrificing one child, you might end up sacrificing hundreds of people to save these few kids.

While we are all aware that life is full of tough decisions that need to be made, we may not realize that hasty decisions may not always be the right one .

"Remember that what's right isn't always popular ... and what's popular isn't always right ."

Time of the Lack of it

Plan...Organize...yes,the key words...Without boasting, let me say- I do have a daily planner...I reach office and list out all the pending things that I need to do, during the day and the coming day(s)...including meetings planned, meetings to be called, and then, I prioritize. Well, this helps to a certain extent. But, there are days when the day ends and I wonder what I have done during the day, since my list has hardly one activity crossed out. And, the answer is- chaos...chaos of the external kind- many other factors and people take up my time...things I didn't think were a problem, become one and I have to find a solution.

But, yes...the fact remains- if I feel I have 'no time', it's my fault and no-one else's. Because, with planning, should also come intuition..thinking 'out of the box', anticipating which project will demand attention where and when...Ah...life- a never ending learning upwards curve...I just love it!!

Frustrations be damned!!:)(And, I can say such famous last lines only on Thursdays, with a two day weekend coming up...hehe!)

Need I say more? (Yamini, haha- it seems like I'm going to make this my last line in most posts- just like 'keep on smiling' is my line in my main blog)

Words

Words are a heavy thing...they weigh you down. If birds talked, they couldn't fly. ----- Sy Rosen and Christian Williams, Northern Exposure, On Your Own, 1992
---
Now, is that a fact or isn't that a fact? I guess it'd be a matter of opinion. Where a person like me is concerned, I prefer to be the observer at most group gatherings or parties or whatever, and listen to people 'weighing themselves down'..:)And, this is not a recent happening- I've been this way since school days..in fact, when I used to make a statement in our friends' circle, their reaction would be 'yeh hit maarta hai to zabardast hoti hai'....ROFL...that's what comes when you first listen, make your observations and then speak what you want to!!Instant reactions usually cause a lot of heartburn, specially when spoken in the heat of the moment, only to be regretted later.

On a side thought- does it mean that calling someone  'birdbrain' is a compliment?

Need I say more?:)

Mistakes

I used this one on my main blog...but, can't resist repeating it here, since it's pretty inspirational:

Everybody makes mistakes; that's why they put erasers on pencils

Yamini, should I say- "Need I say more?"....hehehe!!

Have a great day, everyone!

Stand Up

The sooner we realize this, the better it is. I agree-sometimes, it's not feasible or sensible to stand up for something, even if we feel the opposite person is wrong- it might be due to etiquette or respect. But, not standing up and speaking your mind at all, leads people to think that you're a weakling. That you've no thoughts of your own, that you always tend to go the 'Bhed Chaal'- like a herd of sheep- one leads, the rest follow.

Simple thought, great meaning!!What's your interpretation, people?

Change

Thought for the day:

The first step toward change is acceptance.

Once you accept yourself, you open the door to change.

That's all you have to do.

Change is not something you do, it's something you allow.

Will Garcia

Amen to that! But, are you willing to do that? You want the world, the people, everyone around you to change...you wish that they would come around to your level of thinking,so that you could always be correct. If they don't, if someone disagrees, you don't feel like talking to them, you think they're against you, you lose your temper or you sulk or you start shouting and soon, it's a mud-slinging competition going on.

Which is why, I usually(No, it's not possible for me also all the time) try to put myself in the other's person's shoes and understand why he or she is saying something, instead of flying into a blue funk and vitiating the atmosphere all round. Try it- it will work, I guarantee..and, forget others-you'll be increasing your life span..the less the anger, the irritation, the bad words, the better your life will be.Change yourself-that's the difficult part. The rest will be easy.(Pun intended)

People and Happiness

Time for two quotes this time:

1:

There are two types of people - those who come into a room and say, "Well, here I am," and those who come into a room and say, "Ah, there you are."  Frederick Collins

Ah,now, that's a quote after my heart...it's one of the ways I use to identify pompous people!!(And, then, stay away from them!!Haha!!)

2:

"Happiness is not getting what you want, it's wanting what you've got."

Ooohhhh...how many of us realize that, instead of always wishing our lot in life could be better?? Isn't it funny, how such simple thoughts make so much sense to us sometimes?

Conquering Fear

I don't need to say much, do I? First, the paragraph says it all-most of the time, our fears are unfounded, but because we are scared, they get the better of our faith. Like the skateboarder has done-you think he will fall on his head? No way!
